A sharp-eyed type spotted Sergey Brin's wedding band in this photo: gold, with a red stone set in it. Most men, in the Valley as elsewhere, opt for a simple band. The Google cofounder married Anne Wojcicki of 23andMe last year. Does anyone know if the choice of ring represents Sergey's Russian heritage, Wojcicki's particular tastes, or just the geek couple's quirkiness? Here's a closeup shot:

nice hair, guy next to him is thinking the same thing
It's proof that he's an OC80 user.
is that the ring they give you when you join the illuminatis?
Red Lantern?
Is that Scoble's younger nephew at the left?
I actually like it quite a bit. He can certainly afford to have a gorgeous ruby like that, and to me it's an indicator that guys as well as gals want something unique and special. I would love to see details. In spite of how large that center stone is, it also doesn't scream "class ring" or "mob boss" to me -- it's set differently, and what I can see of the mounting is intriguing.
I would also like to know if it has some special meaning.
It means I'm rich as fuck, so I don't care about my hair either.
It's cute that you think multi-billionaires act like normal humans and their decisions can be inferred by comparing them to actions of mere mortals.
agreed. he's rich as hell. he can do whatever he wants kids.
ffs, hire a stylist. he looks like a bumble bee with a shitty haircut
Hard to say, but could it be the class ring of his undergraduate alma mater? (University of Maryland)
@ Bartkela: Yes, on his wedding ring finger....
You know that if you Google "Russian wedding ring", the first hit links to an article that points out that Russians wear their engagement rings on their right hand, yes? The left hand ring finger apparently indicates previously married (i.e., divorced).
Wikipedia seems to back this claim.
Bright yellow has no place, ever, in a man's closet. I know men want to wear it because so many do but no. Just no. And especially never in a non-athletic situation. It just doesn't work.
Yep, Russians wear wedding rings on the right. As do many Europeans. My husband is Russian and we married in a Russian Orthodox Church.
The ruby ring may be a friendship, birthstone (e.g Garnet or Ruby) or engagement ring instead, since the left is the only place for it when the right is taken. Russians like their gems - think Faberge.
With all that money, it's too bad Sergey can't change that *******.
@tech2012: Yes, he is rich and can do whatever he wants. Guess what... so can we.
Did you know that diamonds are not rare and that DeBeers has pulled off the most elaborate and effective marketing campaign ever? 3 Months salary for a common stone? DeBeers buys mines as soon as they pop up around the world.
Rubies were used as wedding stones for years before all of this diamond stuff.
Anyway, that ring looks pretty pimp but it makes more sense than diamonds. Rubies may actually be worth what rubies sell for. :-)
