"That's Mr. Suck Up to you"

Reggie Davis, the attorney booted from Yahoo's legal team and granted a face-saving job monitoring fraudulent clicks on Yahoo's ad network, was not laid off, as a tipster told us. Here's how he told his staff he's still on the job:

Despite the reports in valleywag to the contrary, I am still here at Yahoo! Thanks for those of you who thought this was real and were concerned for me and my family - clearly the silver lining in this silly sideshow. That said, I will now expect everyone to refer to me as "Mr. Suck Up" and not just suck up.... Thanks, Reggie

  • shouldn't he be sueing you for emotional distress? horrible horrible journalism.... these are real people you're writing about.

  • Sounds like a decent guy.

  • li·bel /ˈlaɪbəl/ noun, verb, -beled, -bel·ing or (especially British) -belled, -bel·ling.
-noun 1. Law. a. defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.
    b. the act or crime of publishing it.

I think Reggie has a case.

  • He does sound like a good guy, makes VW attack seem irresponsible.

Well, do the math. Right now slander has no cost, and pays $13 a post. Until slander costs more than $13 you can expect more of this kind of article. I think one single lawsuit would straighten this all out.

  • Prime example of Reggie's good nature! I agree with well-seasoned this was nothing but an irresponsible attack on a hard working man. VW just comes across as moronic by continuing to refer to him as "the attorney booted from Yahoo's legal team and granted a face-saving job." Seriously do you really think that Yahoo! would PROMOTE someone to a VP job that wasn't cutting it?!?! Seriously! Doesn't this Owen Thomas guy realize how silly that claim is? Yahoo! is not some mom and pop family business that makes moves based on emotions or "face saving". They pick their top dogs based on merit and business logic just like any other corporation. And as we saw this week when they boot someone it isn't to another job. Can we say DUH? Good for you Reggie for realizing this is absolutely a side show. You inspire your co-workers everyday to be better Yahoo!s and even better people.

  • Owen, I worked with Reggie Davis. I knew Reggie Davis. Reggie Davis was a friend of mine.

    Owen, you're no Reggie Davis.

  • Is your source even real? You couldn't be further from the truth so are you in the habit of just making shit up? Simply contacting anyone at Yahoo would have shown you were throwing lies.Tipster shitster! Reggie can be gregarious and charming, but he's down to earth and certainly no suck up to anyone. He's super smart and talented and wouldn't have left his stellar performing litigation position and move his family downstate for a bogus position. He's never been booted from anything(except a bar where he was cheering for the Cowboys among Redskins fans) and should use his legal talents to sue your ass over the tag line you're using.Don't call him a suck up just because he believes in Yahoo. More important, he believes in his talents and those of his team to strengthen Yahoo. Eliminating fraud/trash and building quality are legitimate endeavors...except on your site. Shame on you

  • See, I told you he was still there. We VPs need to stick together! :-) And they say policy wonks are the first to be canned... not so, if they are saving the company big bucks in litigation costs. Bottom line: he should be promoted, again.

  • Owen: Dude, your stock is dropping faster than pre-MSFT Yahoo...

  • I think his source was high on OC-80, the drug taking over Silicon Valley.

  • Are all of you rah-rah Yahoos the sole surviving scrubs on his team trying to avoid the axe? Admit it - click fraud "czar" is a made up job that didn't exist until Reggie needed some place to land after being booted from Legal. Why would Sue give a meaningless job to a has-been lawyer with ZERO product experience. I smell a rat.

  • Owen, I think a line out of the Joseph McCarthy witch hunt era applies to you quite well in this case, which is, "Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

  • Love all the retarded Yahoo's showing up right as their company is about to be forcibly acquired.

Recommendation: Spend less time whining like bitches on gossip blogs, and spend more time preparing your resumes for eventual downsizing. If you're not this round, Microsoft will finish the job.
