CNN fires blogger for blogging

chez.jpgCNN fired American Morning producer Chez Pazienza yesterday for blogging on the side. The network says Pazienza was canned for not having his blog posts vetted by higher ups. He disagrees. "It's not that I've been writing," Pazienza told thePoMoblog. "It's WHAT I've been writing." On his blog, Pazienza writes that he "fell into TV news 16 years ago and been stuck there ever since (proving that the business really is a bottomless pit)." Thump!

  • Since when did it become fashionable to curtail someone's right to blog? Just asking.

  • Is that his real name, or his favortie restaurant?

  • Is that his name or his favorite restaurant?

  • I love the gawker stuck post magic.

  • It seems like bloggers have a notoriously volatile tenure in 'big media'.
It's not the first time CNN has done this.
Last year an AC360 blogger was 'let go' for the exact same reason. He moved to AOL and blogged for Political Machine, then when AOL laid-off their bloggers he was axed again.
Looks like the ability to hit the publish button with little, or no regard to the consequences is becoming a pretty regular occurrence.
Old media wants bloggers to craft blogs with the same bureaucracy as they once did in print, editors, sub-editors - the list goes on.
The trouble is, with 'new media' publishers like Gawker going for a get it first/ shock factor approach TWX and other conglomerates desire for brand preservation may in fact be the nail in the coffin.
This probably could've been titled 'Another Reason Why TWX Blows'

I think they maybe fired him in part because he complained about Nancy Grace's many interviews with Natalee Holloway's mom, and rightly called Grace "Grendelesque". Wasn't "on board" with the whole missing hot girls thing.

Turner called CNN "Pervert of the Day" and each week they prove him right again.
