The camp that dare not speak its name

The latest Foo Camp spinoff is a get-together (read: job fair) for software product managers. Hence the P. Now, walk over to whoever plans your company travel and say out loud, "I need to go to P-Camp." Exactly.

Parenting blog conference PPCamp coming soon!

  • Sure, the "P" was clearly for "product" to differentiate this from the many BarCamps and FooCamps and other engineer-camps. With almost a dozen talks/presentations proposed and 80+ product managers signed up, it will be more than a job fair.

I'd written a piece years ago which compared product management to potty-training toddlers, with the take-away that "we're not really parents until we've gotten some poop on our hands and laughed about it." PM isn't for the faint of heart or sensitive-of-nose. [www.enthiosys.com]

  • Why wouldn't they have chosen PM-CAMP or Product-Camp or something obvious and not open to immediate ridicule?

Guys, first item on the agenda for P-Camp? Decide on a new name.

Sounds like a case of WWTT -- What were they thinking?
