Google has posted — on Super Bowl Sunday, no less — its "only statement for the time being" regarding Microsoft's bid for Yahoo. At 291 words, it's far too long to read as you prepare to watch my UNDEFEATED NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS crush Sam Gustin's New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Here's the 100-word version.
Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo! raises troubling questions. This is about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies — and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets. Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet? Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors' email, IM, and web-based services?
We believe that the interests of Internet users should come first as the merits of this proposed acquisition are examined and alternatives explored.

Shouldn't Microsoft be the Patriots and the Giants Yahoo?
yeah, i was just thinking that, and how is google scared -at all?
they've dominated each of those companies separately, why would it be any different if they're together?
Hey Valleywag, kinda strange that the googies would be so concerned about MS/YHOO today when "your sources" were too busy laughing to comment on Friday? Guess their laughter has turned to tears.........
1) Don't be evil
2) Don't be a bunch of pussies
If they could just figure out how that bitchin network might be good for something besides selling ads they wouldn't have to worry about trying to outmaneuver Microhoo in Washington.
C'mon, you kids are smart, bust a move already.
Well, if that goes anything like tonight, Google will win :)
Let's be honest.
Microsoft is a mile northwest of Moffett field.
Yahoo is a half-mile south of Moffett field.
Google is north of Moffett field.
This is really all about who is best positioned to make a Darth Vader style raid on Moffett field - just like the time he raided the rebel transport at the beginning of episode three.
At some point, Microsoft and Google will fight a loud and light war at Moffett field. I just hope that the descendants of Skywalker are there to mediate the force.
@CaliforniaCajun: "watch my UNDEFEATED NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS crush Sam Gustin's New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII." Wrong.

Why don't you stick to writing about the internets instead of predicting sports--though you kind of suck at both it seems.
Google is the company that is bidding for a wireless spectrum monopoly, right? They weren't planning on giving that away to the poor, were they? Cause its funny that they would have a concern about monopolistic behavior, ya know, when they are putting $5 billion down on a nice, shiny, new monopoly. I guess irony is lost on those guys.
