Yahoo maintains 28 "official blogs." Eight of them haven't been updated in a month, Internet gadfly Steve Baldwin notes on his blog. Here's the rundown.

  • Although I can't think of any Yahoo services I couldn't live without, and these may well be on the short list for elimination, I don't know that blogging freq

  • ooops... I hit a key that did "submit"..

Anyway, I don't know that blogging frequency is a sure sign that work isn't going on on the product. I've known Google blogs to be left dormant for a month or more too.

One turn-off for product related tech blogs (from the company producing the product) is the sense that they are being produced on some schedule by a PR person or persons (Channel 9 from Microsoft for example). I'd much rather know that no blog entry just means they don't have anything worthwhile to announce for a while, which could be problematic eventually, but probably not a month or two.

    There... "submit!"

  • Most of these blogs seem to be linked to Yahoo products. This means that they might be updated whenever they are preparing to release new features or respond to an issue.

I can't imagine these blogs being updated every day as they're not likely to create enough traffic to be viable revenue generators. As such, they're also likely manned by product or technical folks with other (useful) day jobs.

This is hardly relevant to the impending layoffs.

  • Google Research Blog: Last updated October 18, 2007.

Google News Blog: Last updated Dec. 21, 2007.

Those were the first two official Google blogs I clicked on.

    Deathwatch!!!!!!!!
