Commenter beng asked the question about CES's two-tier journalist passes that I wondered, too: "What is the difference between the blogger badge and the press badge, and does that mean that even Engadget and Gizmodo get blogger badges?" Gizmodo editor Brian Lam is toting a Press badge, just like Mahalo CEO Jason Calacanis. Our own Jordan Golson has been tagged a "Blogger." Hey Jordan: Besides a separate lounge with espresso and cookies, what other perks does a Press pass get you that a Blogger badge doesn't? Just login and let Calacanis answer again, that was hilarious.
What's the diff between "press" and "blogger?"

In 9 out of 10 cases, a paycheck *rimshot*
@Rick: LMAO
Also, majority of PRESS folk tend to be old farts.
It just depends on how you registered for CES, and it's a practically meaningless distinction.
I'm glad comments no longer have to be approved. Now can you just stop cutting off the ends of your blog entries on the front page?
Really, it would go a long ways towards readability.
@lawnsprinkler:
But if they did that they'd have less clicks on their specific article. Clicks mean money! Sometimes.
Why do I always think of "Flock of Seagulls" when I see Jason?
Coming from an educated journalist...I do believe the real distinction (perhaps not at CES) is that a journalist produces pieces without opinion. A blogger could be as one sided about an issue as he/she chooses.
Coming from an educated journalist, the difference between journalist and bloggers is that a journalist reports things without opinion. And for bloggers that isn't always the case. A blogger can choose to put as much emotion into a piece as he/she chooses.
"blogger" as a term will only stick around for a few more years till everyone realizes it's just a vertical list of reverse chronologically ordered stories.
what would jason calacanis do!? he'd pretend to be something he's not.
A copy editor? Bloggers are just unedited columnists.
i think jason calacanis is a pretty cool guy. he makes wikipedia and doesn't afraid of anything.
@lawnsprinkler: Comments have never had to be approved. First-time commenters must go through an approval process before they're allowed to post comments -- a privilege that may be revoked at any time.
I notice uncoveditor is back from holiday :)
bloggers don't need those thin slices of dead trees bound together with a curly wire that journalists love running around with. and the little sign on a blogger's fedora doesn't say PRESS.
I didn't realize Jason Calacanis owned Mahalo. No wonder their cute girl and cameraman have been giving me the stinkeye. I just figured it was because they were from Hawaii and grumpy, like everyone else from Hawaii.
