Ning, the social-network software maker cofounded by Marc Andreessen, appears to get substantial traffic from adult-oriented websites it hosts. CPM Advisors notes that some of Ning's top networks include names like girlongirl.ning.com, whiteholes4blackpoles.ning.com, and ladyboyworld.ning.com. From Quantcast's and Alexa's numbers, these creatively named sites account for a double-digit percentage of Ning's traffic. Ning's terms of service do not forbid pornographic content, so no rules are being broken here, it seems. Still, one wonders if this is really what Andreessen, who previously cofounded Netscape and Opsware, had in mind for his third entrepreneurial act.

Marc, all I'm gonna say is 'Respect'! :D
It is good to note that Ning sells as a premium service the option to map your network to your own domain name, so many of the top networks on the platform use domain names that are not something.ning.com and so not computed in this Alexa's statistics. mix.Epicfu.com come to mind.
Headline correction: "... porn NING?"
NING YOU LONG TIME!
Of course the last thing we need is more porn on the net. However I do have to support them for being a little more liberal/loose than other social networks. Wonder how they would react to a DMCA issue like the bubble video. Cave in or support the site?
Smart thing for them to do would be to have some restrictions for what falls under the ning primary domain and make the filthy nasty stuff that nobody here would ever view only available via separate domain names.
It's been a while since I checked out their service, but I think I remember that having your own domain name was an option.
I also assume there get to be fees involved for high traffic generated by these sites. Right?
Is Ning making money yet?
@macbeach: Ning run ads on the sites unless you pay them not to. So... Ning gets paid.
well, playboy was one of netscape's first (paying) customers, so this is no big surprise.
@scalawag: nice.
What was that I was saying about what happens when porn competes on a level playing field?

Now what is this Ning you speak of? Some kind of phone, maybe?
