So, is it true, as Robert Scoble guesses, that fear of Google is becoming widespread? The geek blogger, quoting from web headlines, detects a distrust of the Mountain View search giant that mirrors that of Microsoft, his former employer. A check of the Nexis newspaper database backs up his contention. We searched for articles which mention Google's name near mentions of "domination". (The figure for 2007 is an annualized number, based on the data for the year to date.) From just three hits in 2001, the total has risen remorselessly. Now, not all these articles refer directly to Google's domination of a particular tech category; and many of them state Google's power as a matter of fact, rather than cause for despair, or outrage.
