Okay, so Google's founders remain deeply involved in the search engine's management. And the Mountain View company, to breed the world's most intelligent and self-satisfied workforce, puts candidates through a gauntlet of interviews and tests. But I simply don't believe this Google myth, put about most recently in an interview by Omid Kordestani with the Times of London. After speaking with Google's business development boss, The Times reports on Google's exhaustive recruitment efforts. So impressive: Larry Page "personally signs off" on all new hires, every Wednesday, according to the British paper. Yeah, right. The search engine giant is bringing in more than 100 new staff each week; there is no way the Google founder can meaningfully vet each appointment; nor should he. This is one Google anecdote that's outlived its usefulness, and should be retired.
